3 Resume Tips 2017

Hey, my working naturals!

It can be hard when you fill out job application after job application and submit resume after resume only to get no response from companies! I wanted to share with you tips that helped me get interviews and job offers!

1. Tailor your resume and cover letter to fit the job you want!

Do you have one resume with all or most of your job history on it that you send to employers? If so, you might want to try creating different versions of your resume that are tailored to the job in which you are applying. For example, if you are applying for a customer service position, your resume and cover letter should include your customer services jobs. Be sure to save each resume with your name, job title, and year.

2. Include the title or position in bold at the top of your resume after your name and contact info.

For example, let’s say you’re applying to be a preschool teacher. The top of your resume would look something like this:

Emily Something

City, State

Phone number: XXX- XXX-XXXX

Preschool Teacher

3. Create a small 1-3 sentence summary of your experience that pertains to the position.

Again, your summary should help tie your experiences together. This makes it easy for an employer to see how you could fit into their company. Try making the first sentence the number of years of experience you have in the position. For example, you could say, “I have 10 years of experience working with children… My positions have included… “The third sentence could include your specific objective.

*BONUS* Once you are finished with your resume, run it through a grammatical app like Grammarly to catch any errors. I would also suggest you or someone else reviewing it a second and third time.
